In advance of Carers Week twenty two local carers enjoyed a morning of pampering at the Energise Beauty Salon at North Hertfordshire College. The training salon offers a wide range of treatments and enables the beauty therapy students to gain valuable experience of working on clients whilst they are training at NHC.
The Carers enjoyed a range of treatments including facials, makeup, manicure and nail art all given by Level 2 beauty therapy Students who were also being assessed for their qualification.
Tracey Izzard (coordinator for level 2 beauty therapy) at North Herts College and Jo Wilkinson Executive Assistant for CCHN arranged the treats for carers so that they could enjoy some ‘time out’ and pampering away from their caring roles.
Tracey said “The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was great to have so many clients in the salon for treatments which enabled the students to gain practical assessments towards their qualifications. However, more importantly it was great that they were able to give something back to people who work so hard caring for others. The girls were very moved by some of the stories they heard and feel very humbled to have been able to give a little bit of relaxation to some very important people.”
The Carers went away happy with the results, energised and relaxed and looking forward to the next opportunity to be spoilt in this way. One of them, Anne said “I feel like a new woman. It has given me a new lease of life. I have never been pampered like this before.”
Comments like this show how important it is to give Carers a well earned break and that’s exactly what Crossroads Care aim to do by providing both practical and emotional support in many different ways.
