More than 200 invited guests attended the Chairman of North Herts District Council, Cllr. Jane Gray’s, Civic Service at St. Martin’s Parish Church in Knebworth on Sunday 24th November.
The theme of the Service was ‘Supporting Carers in our Community’ and was dedicated to those who serve the community through caring for their friends or relatives with little thought for themselves. The Service included a brief presentation by Geoff Brown, Chairman of Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North, Cllr. Gray’s charity for the year.
Units from local groups the 2nd Knebworth Brownies, 1st Knebworth Guides, 1st Knebworth Thor Cubs and 1st Knebworth Eudo Scouts carried flags into the church and Standard Bearers represented the Stevenage and Knebworth Branches of the Royal British Legion.
The hymn singing was led by members of the Welwyn Garden City Music Society Chorus with contributions from the Knebworth Primary School Choir.
Following the service guests enjoyed refreshments at the Parish Centre with a stunning spread of delicious cakes all baked by students from North Herts College.
Donations from the event were shared by St. Martin’s and Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North. Chairman of North Herts District Council, Councillor Jane Gray said “I am delighted to support Crossroads Care, my chosen charity, and would like to thank their team of dedicated volunteers who worked very hard to make the event a success. For the wonderful service thanks are due to the Reverend Jim Pye, the Reverend John Steele and the Reverend Canon Daniel Cronin and special mention also goes to the choirs, the flag bearers and the students from North Herts College for providing such a delicious array of cakes!
