Fundraising Event in Knebworth

In April this year the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Association merged to form the new Carers Trust. The Cooperative nominated Carers Trust as their Charity of the Year. Locally Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North have been supporting the programme and one of their Trustees, Dr. Patsy Marshall was nominated as an Ambassador. The role of the Ambassador is to build awareness of the charity at a local and regional level and support the fundraising campaign.

Patsy has passionately taken on this role and is now supporting nine local Cooperative branches in Stevenage, Knebworth and Stotfold. Most people who are caring for someone find themselves doing so for twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and in order to underline this, Carers Trust promoted 24th July (24/7) as a special fundraising day. Although customers in our local Coop stores have been giving generously since February, they responded readily to the special events organised by staff on and around 24/7 to raise even more money for the Charity.

For example a team of ten staff from the Co-operative branch in Knebworth put on a charity fund raising event at the store on Wednesday 24th July. The team dressed down in their Pyjamas and sported Carers Trust Tshirts for the day. Many of them were busy the day before and baked delicious cakes that were sold to customers. There was a raffle with prizes including a fabulous chocolate cake and hamper and a name the Teddy competition. £240 was raised on the day. Further events are planned for the rest of the year by our local Coops including for some of the more adventurous staff, sponsored Skydiving.

Because she has taken an interest in the vital role of carers by making Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North her Charity of the year and to acknowledge the hard work undertaken by Coop staff to raise funds for Carers Trust, Cllr. Jane Gray, Chairman of North Herts District Council and the local district councillor visited the store and was photographed with Patsy Marshall, Ambassador and some of the staff.

Gemma Edmunds, Manager of the Knebworth branch said “I was so proud of the staff who made such an effort to get involved in the fund raising events. It was a great team effort and our customers enjoyed the cakes that were on sale. We are delighted to support such an important charity that provides support and breaks to carers.”
