Thanks to generous funding from County Councillor Alan Searing Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North recently opened a new Carers’ Cafe in Hoddesdon.
The Carers’ Cafe – held at the Mayhem Theatre Company in Hoddesdon had its launch event on the 12th February and will meet every second Tuesday of the month. The Cafe is meant for full time family carers to give them a break away from their caring responsibilities. It provides an opportunity to meet up with other carers and enjoy a coffee and chat in a welcoming environment.
“We know that the concept works having opened several other cafes in Hertfordshire” said Jo Wilkinson from Crossroads Care “Carers make friends and are able to talk to other people who are in the same situation. We hope that it helps them to relax and have some time out.” Jo is supported by local volunteer sisters – Hannah and Rebekah who are themselves family carers.
Commenting on the Carers’ Cafe County Councillor Alan Searing said “I attended the launch of the Hoddesdon Carers’ Café and it was great to hear firsthand their stories. I am delighted to be able to support Crossroads Care and local carers by providing them with an opportunity to meet up and socialise for a well earned break.”
If you are a carer and want to find out more please telephone Jo Wilkinson on 01462 455578 or just pop along to the next session planned for Tuesday 12th March at 10am. No need to book and it is free!
