The packed programme will include free blood pressure checks and complementary mini-treatments such as Reflexology, Massage, Reiki and Osteopathy, as well as the opportunity to sample group approaches such as T’ai Chi and Yoga. The Alzheimer’s Society will run a session on “Singing for the Brain”; whilst two mini workshops are on offer with taster programmes designed to help carers in their caring roles. Enhanced Primary Care Mental Health Services will sample ‘Keeping Well in Caring’, and Carers in Herts will run a mini workshop called ‘Balancing Caring and Life’.
Entertainment will add to the enjoyment on the day with local singer Roxy Searle performing and music provided by the Parkinson and Rosehill Singers. Admission is free and includes refreshments.
Jaqui Derrick of the Letchworth Centre said ‘Many people who look after children, elderly parents or partners with chronic conditions do not consider themselves carers – but they are! We hope the event will attract many who are not known to existing carers’ organisations. All will be guaranteed a warm welcome’.
Jo Wilkinson, Executive Assistant at Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North who are supporting the event said “we are delighted to be involved with the Carers Fayre and would encourage carers to come along on Tuesday 23rd July to find out more about the services on offer.”
There are 138,000 carers within Hertfordshire who make an enormous contribution in terms of unpaid support that they offer, sometimes putting their own health and wellbeing secondary. The fayre is designed to bring statutory organisations together with charities and support groups to showcase the support that is available to carers in our region.
